Mallorca’s mountains
From the Mallorcan capital Palma, the Red Lightning travels to the small town of Sóller. The name is misleading, because behind the Red Lightning hides an old-fashioned, nostalgic funicular that jogs from the station at Placa Espanya in Palma towards the mountains. In the past, it was used to transport oranges; today, travellers enjoy the beautiful views along the railway tracks. The Red Lightning takes its passengers past olive groves, flocks of sheep, almond and orange plantations and into the mountains. The journey takes about 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Sóller, you can explore the romantic town and enjoy Mallorca’s best ice cream – at the Fabrica de Gelats. The fruit ice cream in particular is irresistible!
