It should not be missing from any travel wish list and is probably as famous and popular as the country’s cuisine. Considered one of the seven wonders of the world and erroneously even visible from space, the Great Wall of China is one of the most impressive structures ever created by man. And not only because of its incredible total length of 21,196.18 kilometres, which, by the way, would be more than half the circumference of the earth. Associated with it is also the masterly craftsmanship and its millennia-long durability, which rightly makes it one of the most visited monumental buildings in the world. But it is also worth delving deeper into its history and discovering the darker sides surrounding its construction and the numerous human sacrifices that underlie it.
The Egon Waterfalls
The falls formed when the Daiyagawa River was dammed by lava flows from the Nantai volcano about 20,000 years ago. Twelve smaller waterfalls lie below the Kegon Falls or parallel to them. The water emerges through numerous crevices between the mountains and the lava flows.
The height of the fall is 97 m. Along with the Nachi Waterfall in Wakayama Prefecture and the Fukuroda Waterfall in Ibaraki Prefecture, it is considered one of the three most beautiful waterfalls in Japan.
